Early start for low-income home heating program

A program in Chicago to help low-income residents heat their homes properly is starting early this year.

The Emergency Housing Assistance Program gives grants to repair or replace a homeowner's furnace.

Because of this summer's heavy rains and basement flooding, it's anticipated that many furnaces in the city may have been damaged.

Applications will be accepted beginning Friday.

Last year, 258 homes received assistance.
