Little Village residents call for increased security

Some Little Village residents want police to install more surveillance cameras and to assign more officers to their community.

The residents spoke out Wednesday in front of a jewelry store that was robbed Tuesday night. They say some good Samaritans who were in the area made a citizens arrest of a suspect.

The residents displayed petitions they say were signed by more than 1,500 residents supporting their request.

"We as a community -- all the residents and business people -- are tired of all the crime related to gangs, drugs, robberies, the counterfeit fake ID ring and much, much more," said Raul Montes Jr., a Little Village community activist.

Police say crime in the community has not risen but they say they have increased bike patrols in the area.
