In the next week or so, the Chicago Transit Authority will begin posting arrival times, updated every 30 seconds, on a website easily accessible on smartphones.
The system is similar to the CTA's bus tracker feature.
The transit agency hopes the train tracker will help commuters plan trips and avoid long waits on platforms.
Some stations will also have electronic signs that will post train arrival times.
