Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White became the first African-American elected official to formally endorse Rahm Emanuel.

During an event at a North Side charter school, White praised all the mayoral candidates, calling several of them "personal friends".

But White added that "one candidate stands out. His name is Rahm Emanuel".

On being the only back elected official to back Emanuel, White said he had "no apologies".

There are three other African-Americans on the February 22nd ballot for Mayor: former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun, Patricia Van Pelt Watkins and William "Dock" Walls.
