A house in Chicago's Edgebrook neighborhood is certified as one of the greenest homes in the country.

Homeowner Jacek Helenowski used renewable resources so the house produces as much energy as it uses over the duration of a year.

Key features include soybean insulation, ultra-efficient lighting, a spa heat retention system and reclaimed wood from a burned building.

"Ten years ago when we first started research on this project, if you said somebody was green, it was an insult. How times have changed," said Jacek Helenowski, builder/homeowner.

Helenowski started construction in 2004. He and his family moved in this month.
