New concerns about tainted meat in US

April 18, 2011 4:33:26 AM PDT
A study released Friday finds that nearly half of the meat and poultry in the nation is contaminated with multi-drug-resistant bacteria.

It's not actually as scary as it sounds, and there are ways you can protect yourself.

Experts say the bacteria can be killed by thoroughly cooking the meat and poultry.

The risk is in cross-contamination and improper handling of the food.

You should thoroughly wash your hands after handling raw meat or poultry.

The report is published in the current edition of Clinical Infectious Diseases.
