Buffalo Grove police: Watch out for unsolicited visitors

Police in northwest suburban Buffalo Grove are warning residents, especially the elderly, to be cautious of unsolicited visits from contractors, especially those posing as fence installers.

Police say an elderly couple was approached Tuesday morning by a man who said he was building a fence for their neighbor.

The man talked them into showing him their backyard. That's when police say someone else entered the couple's home and stole a coin collection and jewelry worth thousands of dollars.

Police in Buffalo Grove remind all residents to never allow anyone without an appointment into their homes or on their property. Instead, lock the door and call 9-1-1 immediately.
