Cost of some prescription meds may drop soon

Consumers may soon be the beneficiaries as an unprecedented number of brand-name drugs start losing their patents.

In fact, it's believed that global sales growth of prescription drugs could be cut in half over the next five years. That's because several lucrative brands will be losing patent protection.

They include drugs such as Lipitor, a cholesterol fighter, Plavix, a blood clot preventer, and Zyprexa for schizophrenia.

This report comes from a company called IMS Health which tracks the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
