Officials in Schaumburg are looking to make a change in how it handles shoplifting cases at Woodfield Mall.

Right now, those charged with retail theft are arrested and transported to Schaumburg's police station nearly five miles away from Woodfield.

Under a measure expected to win approval from village officials Tuesday night, shoplifters will be handled with a ticket. The change is expected to save police time and generate extra revenue for the village. Judges would issue convicted shoplifters fines between $100 and $750.
