The county is putting 500 young people to work this summer in the hopes these jobs will help prepare them for the future.

County board president Toni Preckwinkle launched the Cook County Works Youth Employment Program Monday. It targets disadvantaged teens.

The first week they'll learn skills such as resume writing, interviewing and dressing for success. Then they'll get to work at county agencies and private employers.

The jobs range from gardening to administrative duties.
