A new Illinois law paves the way for crews to build roads made of recycled materials.

Governor Pat Quinn signed the legislation Friday. He says it will save the state more than $8 million a year.

The law allows the Illinois Department of Transportation to begin using asphalt made from recycled roofing shingles.

It also directs IDOT to use recycled materials in its projects as much as possible.
