Annual breast mammograms and self-exams are still important to detecting breast cancer, according to a new report. That's contrary to some other findings.

This latest study to be presented Friday at the 2011 Breast Cancer Symposium in San Francisco is the latest volley in the on-going controversy about the effectiveness of mammograms and self-exams.

This study found that two-thirds of tumors were found on a mammography and 30 percent by self-exam or from a doctor's exam.
