Study: Fish oil may block chemotherapy

Many cancer patients may take fish oil supplements hoping they will promote health, but a new report warns the fats in these pills could actually stop chemotherapy drugs from working.

Researchers writing in the journal "Cancer Cell" are advising cancer patients not to take the supplements.

They say two fatty acids involved can lead to tumors becoming immune to treatment. The fatty acids can begin a series of chemical reactions that could block the effect of chemotherapy.

Researchers urge cancer patients to talk to their doctor about whether they might be affected.
