Amazon may soon begin renting e-books

Several reports say Amazon is preparing a subscription service that would allow users of its kindle e-reader to download and rent books for an annual fee.

The Wall Street Journal reports Amazon will make e-book rentals available to Amazon prime members.

The service would operate like Netflix offering older digital book titles for rent. Members would be limited to the amount of books they could rent each month.

Amazon is not commenting on the reports.
