The Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network organized the rally. They were joined by Lt. Governor Sheila Simon in recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Some of those attending the rally brought cell phones, batteries and accessories in exchange for cellular provider Verizon donating $10 per phone to the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
