The woman convicted as the ringleader of the Burr Oak Cemetery plot-reselling scandal is in prison to begin serving a 12-year sentence.

The former manager of the Burr Oak Cemetery, Carolyn Towns, 51, surrendered at the Bridgeview Courthouse and is at the Cook County Jail. Towns pleaded guilty in July to six charges stemming from the Burr Oak investigation.

She was given the past three months to take care of family arrangements before serving her sentence.
