Brian Garner uncovered the scam on Craigslist.
The homeowner went onto Craigslist and found that his house in Evansville was being offered for rent at $700 a month.
Garner followed up on the post over the weekend, e-mailing the address listed and pretending to be interested in the house.
Sure enough, Garner got a response from someone from Nigeria who claimed he owned the home.
Police don't know who is behind this post but suspect it may be someone who actually is overseas.
