Police say Cortez Carter took the cab Sunday morning from in front of a coffee shop at Division and Dearborn.
Officers caught up with the thief a short time later with the help of the cab company's GPS, but not before Cortez allegedly drove through a stop light and hit a police mass transit vehicle.
The two officers inside that vehicle suffered minor injuries.
