Health officials warning about neti pots

December 19, 2011

Two people who had been using neti pots died after being infected with an amoeba that can attack the brain. Those deaths are being further investigated.

Health officials say most tap water is treated to fight off dangerous organisms and is very safe to drink. But using it to flush out nasal passages is not recommended.

Most instructions call for distilled, boiled or filtered water to be used with the pots.
