ABC7 Chicago Salutes: Gloria Pina-Cahill

January 14, 2012 11:36:33 AM PST
Saturday morning, ABC7 Chicago Salutes recognized Gloria Pina-Cahill, a Chicago mother of three and teacher at Brian Piccolo Elementary School in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Sarah Landicho wanted to share Cahill's story. She says Cahill is a wonderful teacher who started an "adopt-a-kid for Christmas" program four years ago, so her 20 students could have a happy holiday.

Now, that program, with the help of Cahill's friends, family and supporters, has grown to help three classrooms at the school. Some of the gifts are essential items, like coats, boots, gloves and shoes, as well as toys, of course.

Landicho says Cahill believes in her students and does everything she can to help them. The students, in turn, realize the community cares.

If you know someone who should be recognized, someone who has made a difference, please send us their photos and all the information on why we should salute them on ABC7. Upload your photos to Some participants are featured on the Saturday morning newscasts.
