Riccardo Muti, the conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will conduct a concert in the Vatican in honor of Pope Benedict XVI.

Muti will lead Rome's Teatro Dell'Opera in selections from Vivaldi and Verdi in the Friday concert in honor of the pope's seventh anniversary of his election to the pontificate.

Last week, La Scala opera house announced that former CSO conductor Daniel Barenboim would conduct Beethoven's Ninth Symphony when the pope visits Milan in June.
