Pilot Denny Fitch-- who helped land Flight 232 -- dies

The Saint Charles flight instructor who helped save 184 people during a 1989 crash landing in Iowa has died.

Denny Fitch, an off-duty DC-10 instructor, was onboard United Airlines Flight 232 in July 1989 when the plane lost all hydraulic power. Fitch helped the crew make an emergency crash landing.

One hundred and eleven people died; 183 survived.

Fitch was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago. He was 69.
