Police responded to a report of a shooting shortly before 10 o'clock Saturday morning and found the victim, identified as 34-year-old Abel Oliva, outside the Whipering Winds apartment complex in Palatine Township near Arlington Heights.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Neighbors say Oliva leaves behind a wife and at least three young kids. A spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff's office says they have "good leads" on a suspect.
