Kenny Lewis, an Iraq war veteran who has been a mail carrier for 20 years, was brutally beaten on the afternoon of May 1 outside a building in the 1400-block of West 80th Street. At the time, it was reported that he was attacked by two men who kicked and punched him repeatedly.
The juvenile offender who was arrested was set to be formally charged Monday, August 6, after his arrest on Friday, August 3.
Lewis sustained extensive injuries to his face, requiring a dozen stitches. His shoulder was also injured.
"As he approached the alley, two guys jumped out from behind and struck him in the head with a hard object," said Wanda Lewis, wife, in the days following the attack.
The post office says these types of incidents are not rare. Lewis had been working the mail route on which he was beaten for the past 15 years.
Emergency Response Team Postal Inspectors investigated the assault and processed the scene. They canvassed the neighborhood more than once and gave out a $10,000 U. S. Postal Inspection Service reward flyer.
