HIV testing could become routine

August 20, 2012

The U.S. Preventative Service Task Force is expected to make a new recommendation on HIV screening before the end of the year.

Under President Barack Obama's healthcare law passed in 2010, insurers are required to cover preventive services that are recommended by this task force.

An estimated 1.2 million people live with HIV in the United States.

The CDC and other prominent groups have already called for routine screenings.
