FAA may loosen limits on in-flight electronics

August 28, 2012 (WASHINGTON)

The Federal Aviation Administration announced it is forming a group to review its consumer electronics policies.

The FAA now limits these devices because of fears they could interfere with airplane communications and navigation systems. They won't, however, be looking at the cell phone policy since that is set by the Federal Communications Commission.

The new group will begin their work this fall and report back to the FAA six months later.

The changes aren't expected to happen anytime this year.
