MRI exposure could harm memory

August 30, 2012

Scientists conducting one study say the effects were most noticeable in tasks that required high levels of working memory.

The study in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine also found that, even when no imaging is taking place, the static magnetic field causing the problem is always present.

Results showed medium and high exposure to static magnetic fields had a significant effect on general functions such as attention, concentration and spatial awareness.
