Evergreen Park teachers strike continues

Another round of talks is underway between the Evergreen Park teachers union and the school board.

Teachers walked off the job on Tuesday after talks failed to produce a new contract.

On Thursday, talks broke up early after an alleged outburst by the board's attorney. Following the incident, the two sides will use a mediator to communicate.

The strike affects more than 1,800 students.

Contentious issues include retirement benefits, health insurance and partially tying annual salary increases to students' test scores.

A community forum is planned for Monday.
