People under 55 make up a greater percentage of all stroke victims.
The first stroke rate in patients aged 20 to 54 jumped from nearly 13 percent to about 18.5 percent. Researchers speculated that the upsurge in strokes is caused by an increase in risk factors including hypertension, diabetes and smoking in younger patients.
