As most of the Chicago area woke up to another day of single digit temperatures Thursday, many people in Northwest Indiana started the morning blanketed in lake effect snow.

A lake effect snow advisory was issued for Lake and Porter counties in Indiana as at least an inch or two of snow fell overnight.

The blast of winter weather made for hazardous driving conditions.

Indiana State Police warned drivers to be careful because of icy and snowy roads.

And while most are struggling to accept our belated winter there are many who welcome the snow.

Business was good at the Portage Ace Hardware as those left unprepared after weeks of mild weather scrambled to deal with winter.

Portage, Indiana resident Eugune Beres did something he hasn't done in a long time, he cleared several inches of snow.
