Thousands of tons of salt piled up around Chicago area

Chicago's mild winter means that for another year, towns across the area are saving a lot of money.

Chicago has more than 270,000 tons of salt on hand and may not need to buy much more.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has 160,000 tons in storage as well.

The mild weather is not good news for everyone.

Some towns, including Niles have a salt contract, which means they have to pay for the extra whether they use it or not.
