Mixing diet soda with alcohol could be risky

Diet soda and alcohol may increase your risk of intoxication, according to a new study in the journal "Alcoholism".

Researchers said the artificial sweeteners in diet drinks produce a higher breath- alcohol content than sugary drinks.

Study participants who drank alcohol mixed with diet drinks also had a higher level of impairment.

It appears sugar reduces the absorption of alcohol in the intestines, according to scientists.
