Pope Benedict hit head in Mexico trip, Vatican says

The Vatican says a head injury Pope Benedict XVI suffered during a trip to Mexico did not play a role in his decision to resign.

The pope will step down at the end of the month.

An Italian newspaper reported the pope hit his head when he got up in the middle of the night during last year's trip. The Vatican newspaper has reported the pope decided to resign after that because the trip was physically exhausting for the 85-year old.
