Court delays enforcement of new foreclosure rules

The Illinois Supreme Court has delayed the enforcement of new rules designed to help more homeowners avoid foreclosure.

The rules require counseling for homeowners and require lenders seeking foreclosure to prove that a modification to an existing mortgage cannot happen.

The rules were scheduled to go into effect Friday.

They will now go into on May 1 so officials have more time to determine how to apply them to existing cases.
