The Chicago Department of Transportation got started Tuesday on the reconstruction of the Kedzie Avenue bridge.

The bridge over the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal will be rebuilt.

The three-span fixed bridge, first built in 1909, will be completely restored with a new concrete road deck and new sidewalks.

During the first phase of construction, which lasts through May 28, one vehicle lane will remain open in each direction. Then the roadway will be closed completely until November.
