Trains were running behind schedule. But the accident caused even more extensive delays around 8 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
The No. 618 train bound for Chicago struck the pedestrian at 7:30 a.m. near the station in Des Plaines, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death and said the victim was a man, but was not releasing his identification pending family notification.
The outbound No. 607 train began moving about 9:30 a.m. with a delay of 108 minutes, according to the Metra website. The train was scheduled to arrive in Crystal Lake at 8:35 a.m. It will run express from Des Plaines to Crystal Lake, then make all station stops to Harvard.
The outbound No. 611, scheduled to arrive in Crystal Lake at 10:25 a.m., was experiencing a 13-15 minute delay, Metra said.
The outbound No. 609, scheduled to arrive in Harvard at 9:20 a.m., was running 98 minutes late, Metra said.
About 10 a.m., inbound trains begin operating again, Metra said.
The inbound No. 640, scheduled to depart Harvard at 9:35 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 11:23 a.m., was running 30 minutes late, Metra said.
