West Side police shooting wounds man

April 28, 2013 (CHICAGO)

It happened after a traffic stop near Franklin Boulevard and Central Park.

Police claim the man pointed a sawed-off shotgun at officers. So, at least one officer fired shots, striking the man in the arm, a police news release said.

Officers say the driver sped away after the gunfire, but police caught him when he crashed a few blocks away.

The man, whom police said was in his 30s, was taken to Stroger Hospital and was expected to recover.

Authorities said the man's weapon was recovered and narcotics were discovered on his person.

There were no reported injuries to police, according to the release.
