The top three largest cities remain New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, in that order. New York City boasts a population of more than 8 million.
The U.S. Census Bureau says new population estimates show Indianapolis slipped from No. 12 during the year that ended July 1, 2012.
The population of Indiana's state capital then stood at just under 835,000. The city actually grew by about 8,000 people from the previous year, but other cities grew more.
Austin, Texas, moved up from 13th to 11th, pushing Jacksonville, Fla., and Indianapolis each down a spot.
