What Julia Merfeld didn't know at the time was the hit man was an undercover police officer.
"It would be messy in the house," she laughed when telling who she thought was a hit man why she wanted the killing to be done outside of her home.
The sting was set up after a co-worker called police and told them he heard Merfeld say she wanted her husband killed.
A deal was made for $50,000.
The money would to come from her husband's life insurance.
Prosecutors say Merfeld wanted her husband dead because the couple had been fighting.
"As terrible as it sounds, it's easier than divorcing him," she said on the tape. "I didn't have to worry about the judgment of my family. I didn't have to worry about breaking his heart."
Merfeld faces a minimum of six years in prison.
Now, her husband says he doesn't want her to spend any time in jail.
