Lawyers with the Chicago law firm Ribbeck Law Chartered International filed a petition for discovery, which is meant to preserve evidence, Wednesday with Cook County Circuit Court.
The filing alleges a malfunction of the 777's auto throttle may have caused the crash.
A Boeing spokesperson says the company has no comment.
