Activists protest Starved Rock fracking

July 31, 2013 (STARVED ROCK, Ill.)

The activists gathered outside the Thompson Center In an effort to raise awareness about a fracking project that could have a long- term impact on the state park. Protestors from moveon.org and other groups said sand mining could destroy Starved Rock.

"It's not too late. This unremitting assault on public heath that frack sand mining and hydraulic fracking presents must be stopped, and we hope the governor, having learned more, will champion this issue, and lead Illinois to a greener, more promising future," Ashley Williams, activist, said.

They say fracking causes the release of cancer- causing dust into the air and pollutes water supplies.
