A building contractor with connections to disgraced ex-governor Rod Blagojevich has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for attempted extortion.

Jacob Kiferbaum says in a letter to the judge he got wrapped up in a world of powerful people and lost his "moral compass."

Kiferbaum admits he and others with ties to Blagojevich threatened to deny state permission for a hospital expansion project unless his firm was hired.
