Police: Carjackings increase in Grand Boulevard

The men approach motorists, display a silver or chrome revolver and take the vehicles and property at gunpoint, according to community alerts from Area Central detectives.

The carjackings happened about 5 a.m. Aug. 23 in the 0-99 block of East 51st Street, about 4 a.m. Aug. 25 in the 4400 block of South State Street, about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 in the 4600 block of South Indiana Avenue, about 11 p.m. Aug. 30 in the 4400 block of South King Drive, about 12:40 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 400 block of East 48th Street, about 1:45 a.m. Sept. 2 in the 4400 block of South Indiana Avenue, about 10 p.m. Sept. 4 in the 4100 block of South Prairie Avenue and about 10:50 p.m. Sept. 8 in the 600 block of East Bowen Avenue, police said.

The carjackers have worked alone or in groups of two to four, police said. The descriptions of the suspects vary, but they are usually described as teenagers or men in their 20s. Anyone with information about the carjackings should call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8384.
