"If it continues, I think we're all going to be dead," Sandra Lira, 12, said.
"When I'm just inside, I hear gunshots," Roberto Duarte said. His picture shows a neighborhood too dangerous for children to play outside.
Lira and Duarte are students at Daley Academy in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
"We don't have to accept the violence that's going on in our city and across the nation. They have to be the change," Rhonda Hoskins, Daley Academy principal, said.
Seventh-graders at Daley Academy created artworks as a way to promote gun violence prevention through a program with the Illinois Council against Handgun Violence (ICHV). The theme is "Today's Gun Violence: Shaping Our Future."
"You're showing the world about how you feel, and in turn this is inspiring them," Delana Colvin, ICHV said.
Charlie Parish drew a picture of the shooting that injured 13, including 3-year-old Deonta Howard. "I drew a picture of him right here, but it really doesn't look like him. Sad he got shot," Parish said.
Taniah Cook, 12, lost a family member to gun violence.
"People need to think about that. About when they shoot they're hurting other people," Cook said.
