Metra's Union Pacific short cars Monday

As many as 22 trains on Metra's Union Pacific lines were short at least one car Monday.

As you can imagine, this caused passengers to scramble for seats and space.

Metra says the cars were taken out of service for a variety of reasons, including wheel replacements, braking and electrical repairs and required inspections.

The rail agency says it is not unusual for one or two cars per line to be out of service each day, particularly in winter, but admits the UP car shortages were unusual.
