Chicago artist Theaster Gates,would earn $1 per year for Washington Park project

Chicago may be about to begin a new public art project.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is proposing a plan to decorate open spaces in the city's Washington Park neighborhood.

Renowned artist Theaster Gates would work with community groups on the project. He would be paid $1 per year.

The mayor was expected to share more details of the proposal Wednesday.
