FedEx worker hurt in South Side shooting

March 29, 2014 (CHICAGO)

At 6:37 p.m., a 48-year-old woman, whom FedEx confirmed is an employee, was driving a truck when she was shot twice in the leg near 41st Street and Drexel Boulevard, police said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

A 19-year-old man, shot in the left arm, was also taken to Northwestern in serious condition, police said.

Residents of the area said the shootings were likely due to gang violence, the Sun-Times reports. Officials said they believe the courier was not the intended target of the shootings.

"This is a difficult time for us. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our employees," FedEx said in a statement.

FedEx officials said they are cooperating with police.

vNo one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
