UIC faculty strike averted, tentative deal reached

After nearly two years of collective bargaining, the union representing University of Illinois Chicago faculty has reached a tentative contract agreement with University administration, averting a teachers' strike.

The settlement comes following a two-day work stoppage in February and the threat of an open-ended strike in late April.

The new contract will extend through next year.

Details of the new deal are embargoed until union members hold a vote at the end of next week.
