Two cars began chasing one another southbound on Ashland near Hubbard, hitting a parked Budget Rental truck and a BMW, police said. Eventually shots were fired into a Ford Explorer. The vehicle landed on a concrete median.
The victim has been identified as Nicholas Ramirez, 19. He was shot in the head and leg.
Authorities are determining whether Ramirez died as a result of the gunfire or due to the crash.
Another vehicle, which may have been involved in the incident, was found abandoned in a nearby alley, authorities said.
Police believe the incident is gang related. No one is in custody.
