Concrete falls to River North sidewalk after parking garage crash

April 28, 2014 (CHICAGO)

The woman lost control of her vehicle on the second floor of the parking garage above the Weber Grill at State Street and Grand Avenue just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

She hit a parked car, which was forced into a garage wall. The falling concrete struck a 39-year-old female pedestrian, who refused treatment.

The hole in the wall can be seen from the outside of the parking garage in the 500 block of north State Street. The concrete that fell onto the street and sidewalk remained taped off by police as they investigated the accident.

The female driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment and was later released. She was cited for failure to reduce speed.

Officials are investigating the full extent of the damage to the building.
